The reality

  • Wales, especially the post-industrialised communities of South Wales suffers one of the greatest burdens of ill health in the UK
  • Opportunities in the developed world for enhancing health through single, simple solutions are limited
  • Complex interventions are required to tackle any one aspect of ill health
  • Multi-disciplinary, multi-method approaches are needed
  • Breadth and complexity are the modern day reality; integrating individuals and groups with a wide range of skills for a common purpose is the challenge!

The potential of research

The Centre for Health Sciences Reseach can provide a joined-up approach to bringing together the people with the right range of skills in an effective working environment so that we can better

  1. Understand the determinants of ill health
  2. Communicate risks to individuals and groups
  3. Identify effective means of modifying risks
  4. Work with a multiplicity of agencies to implement complex interventions
  5. Modifyrisk
  6. Enhance care
