The activities of our group are focused on explaining the nature and mechanisms of SNPs and reported human mutations such as single base-pair substitutions, micro-deletions, micro-insertions, indels, translocations and gross deletions. We are involved in collaborative research with groups within the University of Wales, College of Medicine; Cardiff University; Université de Bretagne Occidentale, Brest, France; University of Wales Aberystwyth and Institute of Grassland & Environmental Research, Aberystwyth. There is expertise in developing theoretically well-founded and computationally efficient algorithms for a range of difficult scientific problems appearing in bioinformatics. We have an additional focus in developing database systems for complex problems. Finally there is much expertise in bioinformatics in relation to functional genomics, and particularly in microarray and proteomic analyses. People associated with the bioinformatics section: The BBU will publicise its research through papers in internationally recognized statistical and genetic journals, and presentations at conferences. |
