The establishment of the BB Unit is to provide the human expertise and resources in biostatistics and bioinformatics to exploit fully the results of our research and the plethora of biological information available within the international bioscience community. We aim to service the growing cluster of bioscience groups
within We aim to :
The areas of our expertise include Complex phenotypic-genotypic analysis - development and application of sophisticated statistical techniques for identifying the patterns of the complex relationships between disease phenotypes and genetic data via linkage and association analyses. These will allow for multiple genetic and environmental effects and interactions between them. Microarray analysis - exploiting conventional statistical approaches in addition to neural networks and machine learning technology. Analysis of mutational data - application of complexity analysis for assigning a possible mechanism of mutagenesis to micro-deletions/insertions, indels, gross deletions and translocations causing various genetic disorders. Database
construction - provision and maintenance of sophisticated
databases to provide easy and open access to the numerous phenotypic and
genotypic datasets held by bioscience groups across
